About Jonathan Smith

Jonathan has had a long career, at a senior level, in local government and the NHS. He became a Director of Social Services in Tameside, Strategic Director of Social Services and Housing in Coventry, and an NHS Chief Executive based, first in Warrington, then in Knowsley. He completed his professional life as a Children’s Services specialist.


Jonathan’s work has often involved advising on children’s services across Cheshire, a county he has called home for over 30 years. He sings in a local choir, and regularly shops in Knutsford and Wilmslow. Jonathan and his wife, Alison, live in Bowdon (old Cheshire), where they raised their four children. Jonathan’s family now includes 5 grandchildren and different members of the family have lived in Europe for the last twenty years.

Jonathan has been an active campaigner on a range of local and national issues. He regularly publishes in the Knutsford Guardian, pushing for honest and accountable public debate and decision-making on the health service, local services and international partnerships benefiting Britain. of benefit to the UK.
